THE ART AND HISTORY OF GICLEE PRINTING
Giclee Pronounced (Zhee-Clay) Prints are the highest end digital graphic reproductions available today. Giclee is a French word meaning "spray of ink."
The process used employs archival pigment inks on 100% cotton rag fine art acid free paper. Resistance to fading has been tested at over 100 years. A giclee print is individually created, one at a time. The editions are small. Printing a single giclee can take up to several hours. It is than thoroughly proofed by
the artist and master printer manipulating and correcting the colors until the digital reproduction matches the original artwork accurately. The print maker has millions of color hues to choose from re: programming this digital method of printing into a computer. Then the artist again proofs print.
Giclees are regarded as museum quality reproductions and have gained wide acceptance from museums, galleries, artists and collectors. These prints have
achieved an exhibition record with museums throughout the world.
